Pricing & FAQ

Explore freely — without live tracking. Your emergency contacts are only alerted if you do not tap Mark Safe after your expected return time. Free gives you email alerts. Pro adds SMS alerts.

How ABB works

  1. Start an adventure and set your expected return time. ABB does not alert your contacts at this point.
  2. At your expected return time, ABB sends you a reminder to tap Mark Safe.
  3. If you do not tap Mark Safe within the 1-hour grace period, ABB alerts your emergency contacts.

ABB is not emergency services and does not guarantee message delivery. Use it as an additional safety layer.

FAQ

Does ABB track my location live?

No. ABB is time-based check-in safety. It does not continuously track your location. There is no live map, no location history, and no data sold to third parties. Your adventure details exist solely to reach your emergency contact if needed — nothing else.

Are my contacts alerted when I start an adventure?

No. Starting an adventure does not contact anyone. Your emergency contacts are only alerted if you do not tap Mark Safe within the 1-hour grace period after your expected return time. ABB is designed so that your contacts are never contacted unless there may actually be something wrong.

Why is ABB privacy-first?

ABB never knows where you are. You choose what details to share, with whom, and only when it matters. Your adventure information is stored securely and used only to alert your emergency contacts if you do not tap Mark Safe. Your adventure information is never used for analytics. We do not analyze, share, or monetize it.

Do I need a satellite device or special hardware?

No. ABB works from any phone with internet access. There is no device to buy, no monthly satellite fee, and no SIM card required. It complements — but does not replace — devices like Garmin inReach for remote wilderness where there is no cell coverage.

What if I return late?

You have a 1-hour grace window after your expected return time before your contacts are alerted. Free users receive an email reminder. Beacon Pro users receive an SMS reminder. Tap Mark Safe to stop alerts.

Who receives the alert and what does it say?

Your designated emergency contact receives a message with your name, adventure details, and your phone number. Email alerts also include your route link. SMS alerts for Beacon Pro subscribers say 'Details sent by email' — so your contact will receive both. Messages clearly ask them to try to reach you before contacting emergency services. ABB does not contact rescue services directly.

What if I forget to end an adventure?

If you do not tap Mark Safe, ABB may alert your contacts. This is by design to reduce the chance of missing a real emergency.

What if my phone dies or I lose service?

If you started an adventure and do not tap Mark Safe in time, ABB will still alert your contacts.

Does Beacon Pro include unlimited SMS?

Beacon Pro includes unlimited SMS + email alerts for normal personal use.

Why does Beacon Pro use SMS instead of WhatsApp, email, or other messaging?

SMS is the most reliable way to reach someone in an emergency — and that's not an accident. It's why governments use SMS for disaster warnings and amber alerts, not push notifications or messaging apps.

SMS runs on the cellular network directly, not the internet. That means it delivers with as little as one bar of signal — in mountain valleys, remote trails, and rural areas where data connections drop entirely. WhatsApp, Telegram, and every other internet-based message requires a working data connection on both ends. In the moments that matter, that's not a given.

SMS also requires nothing from your emergency contact. No app installed. No account. No notification settings to configure. It arrives natively on every phone, even in low-power mode or Do Not Disturb. A WhatsApp message to someone who has the app muted or backgrounded is a missed alert. An SMS is not.

When your expected return time passes, ABB sends you an SMS reminder first — giving you a chance to tap Mark Safe before your emergency contacts are alerted. If you don't respond, your emergency contact is reached by SMS. No waiting for an email to be opened. No hoping they have data. The right person gets the message as fast as the network allows.

Which countries are supported for SMS alerts?

Email alerts work from anywhere. If your phone number is in an unsupported country, you can still receive all Adventure Buddy Beacon alerts by email — no action required.

SMS delivery is currently limited based on your phone number’s country calling code (for example, +33 for France). This restriction exists to prevent SMS fraud and toll-fraud abuse, control messaging costs, and ensure reliable delivery to the numbers we do support.

Supported regions for SMS:

  • United States, Canada, and other NANP countries and territories (+1)
  • United Kingdom
  • Switzerland
  • European Union (EU) — Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden
  • EEA/EFTA — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway

If your phone number is outside these regions, SMS sends will be blocked and you’ll see a message explaining why. In that case, please use email alerts, or contact support@adventurebuddybeacon.com. We plan to expand SMS coverage over time.

Is ABB an emergency rescue service?

No. ABB alerts the people you choose. It does not dispatch rescue services.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Beacon Pro is billed annually. You can cancel anytime and retain access until the end of your billing year.

How do I delete my account?

You can request account deletion from your profile page at any time. Before submitting the request, all active adventures must be ended — this is required for safety reasons.

What happens to my data when I delete my account?

Once your deletion request is processed, we permanently delete your profile, all adventures, emergency contacts, routing preferences, and login credentials. Deletion is irreversible.

When does deletion take effect?

For free accounts, deletion is queued immediately. For Pro accounts, you can choose between two options:

  • Delete at end of billing period — your account and Pro access remain fully active until your current billing period ends, then your account is permanently deleted.
  • Delete immediately — your account is deactivated and your subscription is cancelled straight away. You forfeit the remainder of your billing period.

Deletion requests are processed nightly. There may be a short delay of up to 24 hours between when you submit the request and when deletion is completed.
