BORN IN CHAMONIX • TESTED ACROSS THE ALPS
The freedom to roam. Adventure on your own terms.
I spent two weeks wandering in my van through the mountains of France, Italy, and Switzerland.
There was no real itinerary. Each morning, I’d wake up, look at the weather, pick a trailhead, and hike deep into the wilds. I wanted a true, unscripted adventure, the kind where you don't have to report your location every few hours, because the moment you're tied to a schedule or live-tracking app, it stops feeling like an adventure.
But as I hiked solo along remote alpine ridges, a quiet thought kept returning: Nobody in the world knows I am on this trail right now.
If I took a bad fall or got pinned by weather, no one back home would know where to even begin looking. My search for freedom was quietly creating a mountain of worry for the people who cared about me.
I looked at the existing options, and neither felt right.
Live-tracking apps felt invasive - like taking a digital tether into the wilderness - and they drain your phone battery long before you reach the summit. Satellite messengers are great for pressing an SOS button, but if you're unconscious or unable to reach your pack, a button does nothing.
I didn't want surveillance. I just wanted a safety net.
That’s why I built Adventure Buddy Beacon.
Safety without surveillance.
ABB is designed for those who love going solo. You set your return time, head off-grid, and enjoy the freedom to roam. No live GPS streaming. No nagging notifications.
Our server watches your check-in window. If you choose, ABB can notify your contact when you set out. Otherwise, they hear nothing from us - and if you tap 'Mark Safe' in time, the alert never goes out, preserving your privacy and independence. But if you don't check in, ABB automatically steps in to give your trusted contact your route, location details, and step-by-step instructions.
You get the pure adventure you went out for. Your loved ones get the peace of mind they deserve.
