Why we built Adventure Buddy Beacon
Most safety apps focus on constant tracking — streaming your location,
draining your battery, or asking friends to monitor you in real time. But that model
doesn’t match how most of us actually explore. We want freedom, not surveillance.
We want a system that protects us without following us.
Adventure Buddy Beacon was created to solve one core problem:
If something goes wrong outdoors, will anyone know soon enough to help?
ABB gives you a simple safety backup. Set your expected return time before you go. ABB only alerts your emergency contacts if you do not tap Mark Safe after your expected return time.
- No live tracking.
- No constant pings.
- No shared maps draining your battery.
- Just a smart, quiet safety net built for the real world.
How ABB is different
Privacy-first by design
ABB never tracks your location or movements. No GPS trails. No monitoring. Your adventure information is never used for analytics. And when your contacts are alerted, ABB confirms the message was actually delivered — not just sent.
Battery-friendly
Because ABB doesn’t run continuous background tracking, it works even on long days
in the mountains, in spotty service, or when your phone is down to 15%.
You’re in control
You choose your adventure details, your expected return time, who gets alerted,
and when alerts are sent. Nothing is shared unless it’s needed.
Built for solo adventurers
Most safety apps assume groups, shared routes, or live tracking; ABB was built
specifically for people who hike, camp, run, bike, or road-trip solo.
Helpful context when it matters
If your contacts are alerted, they receive your adventure summary:
where you planned to be, when you were expected, and how to reach you —
enough to take calm, useful action.
How Adventure Buddy Beacon works
Before each adventure, add a quick summary of where you’re going and set your expected return time. Your emergency contacts are not alerted when you start.
When your expected return time passes, ABB sends you a reminder to tap Mark Safe.
You have 1 hour to tap Mark Safe.
If you still have not tapped Mark Safe, ABB alerts your emergency contacts. They receive your adventure details, clear instructions, and a prompt to try calling you.
The origin story — from a van, alone on the road
Last summer, I spent two weeks traveling alone in my van — hiking, camping, and
exploring mountain trails. Each day I’d disappear into nature, and one thought
kept lingering:
“No one knows where I am today.”
I didn’t want to bother friends with constant “I’m safe” messages. I didn’t want
them installing yet another tracking app. I didn’t want to stream my location to anyone.
But I did want one simple guarantee: if I didn’t come back by the time I said
I would, someone would know — and they would know where to start looking.
That idea turned into a question:
What if a safety backup only activated when you didn’t return?
No live GPS tracking. No alerts when you set off. That’s where the idea for Adventure Buddy Beacon was born — a quiet safety net that only alerts your emergency contacts if you do not tap Mark Safe after your expected return time.
Explore with confidence.
We’ll watch the clock — so you can enjoy the view.
